Merlin is a fantasy adventure developed by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy. The British series started back in 2008 and airs on BBC One.

The show revolves around the life of a mythical character known as Merlin. The mythical wizard has always been related to Prince Arthur. There are various versions of how the two are actually related, and the series Merlin presents a new version of how King Arthur and Merlin are related.

Produced independently by Shine Limited, the concept of the show was influenced by the series Smallville where the early aged Superman was the centre of the story.

Merlin revolves around the young version of Merlin, played by Colin Morgan, a young sorcerer who lives in the city of Camelot. Merlin had discovered that the current king named Uther Pendragon, portrayed by Anthony Head, had imprisoned the last great dragon under the city premise. The dragon then tells Merlin that he has an important mission to accomplish, that is to protect the son of the king named Arthur. The king’s son Arthur, played by Bradley James, will later on bring greatness to the Kingdom. During the first meet up of Merlin and Arthur, Merlin though of Arthur as arrogant while Arthur sees Merlin as subservient.

Uther has a daughter named Morgana, portrayed by Katie McGrath, who has the ability to foresee the future. Morgana never embraced her given talent and actually fears what she sees. Morgana has a very faithful servant named Guinevere or Gwen, played by Angel Coulby. Morgana had always confided to Gwen.

Merlin also stars Richard Wilson as Gaius, and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon named Kilharrah.
